18april20103Dharamshala: Eight Tibetan refugees were arrested in Nepal after being detained Thursday night by police while they were entering the country from Tibet. The Tibetans, six of whom are women, were trying to enter Nepal through the Singate Bazaar transit point in Dolakha district.

Dhiraj Pratap Singh, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that the refugees would be placed under the jurisdiction of the Department of Immigration. From there, they will either be deported back to Tibet or passed on to the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

While their motive for crossing the border was not officially announced, it is likely that they were attempting to travel to Dharamshala, the home of the Tibetan community-in-exile, via the Tibetan Reception Center in the Nepal's capital, Kathmandu.
