Canberra: - The second conference of National federation of Tibetan Communities Association, Australia was held in Canberra from 20–21 April.
The conference was organised by the Tibet information Office, based in Canberra, Australia, according to the Central Tibetan Administration.
The conference began with the singing of the Tibetan national anthem and a minute's silence as a mark of respect for all the Tibetan self-immolators. Mr Dagpo Sonam Norbu, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Australia gave the keynote address of the conference.
The first day of the conference dwelled on discussions relating to His Holiness the Dalai Lama's forthcoming visit to Australia and the importance of safeguarding Tibet's rich culture and religion.
The conferences also deliberated on ways to improve relations with local Chinese people and the need to sustain and support the immigration of former Tibetan political prisoners to Australia.
Mr Thupten Dhondup, outgoing President of the National federation of Tibetan Communities Association., read out the annual report on the second day and explained the changes made out in the rules and regulation of the council.
New council members for the year were also elected on the second day. Negan Gotsang, President of Sydney Tibetan Association was elected the President of the Association and Tenzin Lhamo, President of Canberra Tibetan association was elected as the Secretary.
The council of Tibetan community leaders, Australia was founded in the year 2010 and new council members are elected after every two years.
There were 14 participants from seven states and in addition the President of the National federation of Tibetan Communities Association and three office staff of Tibet Information office.
The expenses of traveling of the participants and other related expenses had been covered by Tibet Information Office.The conference was attended by chairmen and representatives from all the local Tibetan communities in Sydney, New Castle, Canberra, Brisbane, Atlanta and Tasmania.
