17 January 2013 001Dharamshala: The department of religion and culture of the Central Tibetan Administration yesterday organised a prayer service to express solidarity with the Tibetans who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet.

Addressing the prayer service, Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay appealed to all Tibetans to "strengthen and amplify" solidarity campaigns.

Tsering Tashi also known as Tsebey died on 12 January 2013 after he set himself on fire protesting against the Chinese government's repressive policies at Amchok, Sangchu county. Passang Lhamo self-immolated on 13 September 2012 at Beijing, protesting against land grabbing by Chinese authorities. Her condition is unknown.

The prayer service was attended by Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay, members of the Kashag, the Tibetan chief justice commissioners, members of the Tibetan parliament as well as hundreds of local Tibetans and Tibet supporters.

Since 2009 the total number of known self-immolations to 97. These Tibetans self-immolated to protest against the Chinese government hard-line and repressive policies, and demand the His Holiness the Dalai Lama's return to Tibet and freedom for Tibetans.
