Sikyong: Pay more attention to the unique religion and culture of Tibet

Dharamshala: - Expressing his new year greetings to Tibetans all over the world, the political leader of Tibet Dr Lobsang Sangay urged the younger generation of Tibetans to pay more attention to preserve their unique religion, and culture.

On behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay on February 19, has extended greetings to people both within and outside Tibet to observe traditional New Year festival- Tibetan Wood Horse New Year 2141.

At the same time, Sikyong urged members of the Tibetan younger generation to pay more attention to their participation in important activities to preserve their unique religion, culture, language and moral ethics.

Dr Sangay also expressed solidarity with those Tibetans who have sacrificed their lives for Tibet. "Even when we celebrate the new year, Tibetans inside Tibet continue to face a very tragic situation with tremendous restrictions as the whole of Tibet is still under Chinese occupation."

"Therefore, we must not forget all those men and women who sacrificed their lives for the religious and political struggle of Tibet and all our brothers and sisters who are currently suffering abuses in Chinese prisons."

Sikyong also urged Tibetans to offer more prayers for His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's long life. "We have celebrated 2014 as the year of His Holiness the Dalai Lama", paying gratitude to his contribution towards world peace, religious harmony and freedom struggle of Tibet.

"We will offer a long life prayer service to His Holiness the Dalai Lama as he turns 80 this year. The 34th Kalachakra initiation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be held in Bodh Gaya, the most sacred site in Buddhism in 2016. It is not only a great opportunity for Tibetan people, but for all sentient beings. Therefore, I urge all Tibetans to try their best to collect good merits and offering their prayers," he added.
