Dharamshala :- A Tibetan Parliamentary delegation completed a five day (23-28 May, 2013) visit to the North-East Indian State of Meghalaya, thereby completing the final leg of the 'All India Lobby Campaign'. The campaign which is organized by the Tibetan parliament in exile is aimed at spreading awareness about the series of recent self immolations that have engulfed Tibet among the Indian public.
The delegation, led by former speaker Pema Jungney met with prominent State leaders, Political Party leaders, Bureaucrats, Luminaries and members of the Press.
His Excellency the Governor, Shri Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary expressed his solidarity with the Tibetan cause. He told members of the delegation. After being informed about the current crisis in Tibet, he told members that "hope is what will keep you all going" and that "victory will be an eventuality". Mr Mooshahary, who was the former Director-General of India's National Security Guard (NSG), saluted the "tenacity, arduousness and the resolve of the exile Tibetans".
The delegation then met with Shri Rowell Lingdo, the Deputy Chief Minister of the State, who condemned the "atrocious policies of the Chinese Government", adding that "China must realize, respect and respond to the true aspirations of the Tibetan people and the Tibetan leadership's call for dialogue to resolve the crisis."
The delegation also met with the Deputy Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Shri Sanbor Shullai, who stated that, the "Indian Government should treat the Tibet issue as a special issue" and raise it during the "diplomatic engagements with the Chinese leaders".
The delegation held meetings with the leaders of prominent political parties in the State and appealed for a cross-party support for the Tibetan political movement. The three member delegation also led a 'mass solidarity candlelight vigil' to 'express solidarity with the supreme sacrifices made by the Tibetans inside Tibet'.
Earlier the delegation had visited Arunachal Pradesh, calling on the Chief Minister and other Political leaders of the State for 'stronger and fortified expressions of political support for the resolution of the crisis in Tibet'
The leaders unequivocally pledged support-politically and socially for Tibet and Tibetans in Tibet and in exile and resolved to submit a joint letter to the Chief Minister on the Tibet crisis.
