Bylakuppe, Karnataka, India: Decades back chewing tobaccos might be out of question in Tibetan community, but recent research revealed that chewing tobaccos has become an issue of life and death at least to dozens of Tibetan youths in India.
"Around six hundred Tibetans in and around Bylakuppe got free checkup and free treatment," said Doctor Tenzin Dadrul, a mouth cancer specialist.
Under the aegis of Tibet House, Dr. Dadrul this month held a cancer camp covering all the Tibetan refugee settlements in south India.
"Tibet House organized the Workshop on creating awareness on mouth cancer with diagnosis and treatment not only in Bylakuppe, but other Tibetan Settlements as well such as Rabgayling Settlements in Hunsur and Dhondenling Settlements in Kollegal," said Tenzin Pema, secretary of Tibet House.
After completing the medical camp in south India, Doctor Tenzin is currently in North India visiting the Tibetan settlements and schools to giving treatment to the cancer patients.
Speaking to the Tibet Post International, Secretary Pema said that this is the first time that Tibet House is organizing a cancer camp. However, she added that Tibet House often holds health camps in the Tibetan settlements in India.
