26august2011-kalontripaDharamshala, India: - The democratically elected leader of Tibetans, Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay Friday, 26th August gave a key note address to the participants of the 5th conference on the importance of Tibetan cultural studies at the College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah, near Himayan town of Dharamshala.

Kalon Tripa Dr. Lobsang Sangay's address to the participants stressed on the future of Tibetan democracy and politics in the exile community.

He stated that the vibrant democracy that we have in our political system is the result of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama's vision and efforts. He added that His Holiness has always strive from an early period of our exile years for a democratic system of polity.

He also said that Tibetan democracy has come a long way since 2nd September 1960 when His Holiness introduced democracy in the Tibetan society. The flourishing democracy that we have in our political system is derived from the prevailing democratic values and principles in the world, he added.

The conference also discussed about the Bhoe Shung Gadren Phodrang since its inception in the year 1642 as well as on Tibetan medicine, politics, environmental and financial aspects of the various monasteries and religious institutes.

The 4-day conference on the importance of Tibetan cultural studies was organised by the Sarah Regional Tibetan Youth Congress.

The conference was attended by over 300 Tibetan students and monks from all over India including college students from Bangalore, Delhi and Central University for Higher Tibetan Studies, Varanasi.
