Dharamshala: Global news agencies France 24 and MSNBC have reported that Google appears to be reducing its censorship of politically sensitive websites in China. Previously banned keywords such as "Tienanmen" and "Free Tibet" now yield photographs and information previously unavailable to Chinese users.
Google has not announced any official changes in its censorship policy, and Chinese officials remain clear that the firm continues to respect the laws. The opening of the websites, however, suggest a new chapter in the struggle between Google and China over the state's repressive censorship laws. As recently as Tuesday Chinese officials warned Google that it must obey Chinese laws in order to do business in the country. Though the lifting of internet filters has aroused speculation that Google is pulling out of China, the said earlier this week that it remains committed to negotiating with Beijing and remaining in the country.
