Dharamshala — Amid flaring tensions between China and India, China has officially cancelled plans for Indian journalists to travel to Tibet, according to the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi.
China organizes an annual sponsored visit for select Indian journalists to Tibet every year, which this year was scheduled from July 8-15. Cancellation of the trip came on the heels of a stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops in the Doklam area of Sikkim, the border region between Tibet and China.
The stand-off between the nations came after India protested against the construction of a road by China in the Doklam area, a disputed region. India reportedly expressed concern over China constructing the road to Beijing, saying that such an action would represent a significant change of status quo with "serious" security implications for India.
The stand-off has not just affected the cancellation of the Indian journalists' trip to Tibet, but China has also prevented Indian pilgrims from traveling through Nathu La in Sikkim on their annual pilgrimage for Kailash Mansarovar yatra.
