3april2011008811London: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is to be honoured by Amnesty International next month in recognition of his lifelong commitment to social justice and human rights.

Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of over 3 million people from more than 150 countries who campaign for internationally recognized human rights to be respected and protected for everyone.

The organisation has always been a strong supporter of His Holiness and the Tibetan movement, with regular campaigns held worldwide demanding China to address its human rights violations.

His Holiness will be bestowed the inaugural "Shine a Light on Human Rights" award during Amnesty International's 50th Anniversary celebrations on May 4th. The event will take place at the Carpenter Performing Arts Centre in Long Beach, California. The Dalai Lama will deliver a keynote address, which will be preceded by a welcome from Larry Cox, Amnesty International USA's Executive Director.
