26october20102Dharamshala: Tibet's political and spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama said that he is deeply moved after the Council of Warsaw renamed an important street as "Tibet Square" this week.

Tibet has always had close ties with Poland (since the fall of communism in 1989) and this week's dedication demonstrates their bond, for which His Holiness said "I deeply appreciate this further gesture of solidarity and support for us shown by the people and leaders of Warsaw. The dedication of this "Tibet Roundabout" is another means of connecting the city of Warsaw and the Tibetan People"

He continued saying that "I am moved to learn of the opening in Warsaw of the "Tibet Square": in commemoration of the 10th March 1959 events in Lhasa and of my being awarded the Honorary Citizenship of Warsaw in July 2009."

"I consider the opening of this roundabout as recognition of the Tibetan people's non-violent and just struggle, and our efforts in seeking genuine autonomy for the Tibetan people within the framework of the constitution of the Peoples' Republic of China. I deeply appreciate this further gesture of solidarity and support for us shown by the people and leaders of Warsaw. The dedication of this "Tibet Square" is another means of connecting the city of Warsaw and the Tibetan people," he added.

Concluding His Holiness reiterated the sentiments he made last year in his visit to Warsaw, saying "I have always admired the spirit and immense determination show by the Polish people despite the numerous difficulties you have faced."
