New York — His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, wrote to Pinarayi Vijayan, the Chief Minister of Kerala, to express his sadness about the loss of life, injuries, devastation of property, and the general hardship so many people are facing as a result of massive landslides in the Wayanad region of Kerala and he offered donation towards the relief and rescue efforts in the State.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayanon on July 31, 2024, "I offer my condolences to you and send my prayers to the families who have lost loved ones and to everyone affected by this disaster."
“I am happy to know that the State Government and all concerned agencies are working to provide rescue and relief to affected people. As a gesture of my solidarity with the people of Kerala, I have asked the Dalai Lama Trust to make a donation towards the relief and rescue efforts," His Holiness concluded his letter.
According to reports, heavy rains have triggered landslides in the Wayanad district of Kerala, claiming the lives of 185 people till now and injuring many others, 225 people still missing. Regional and central authorities are sending rescue teams and doing everything they can to save people in the district.
