New York — His Holiness the Dalai Lama will attend a long life prayer offered to him by the Tibetan, Mogoli and Himalayan communities in New York tomorrow, and then will travel to Zurich, Switzerland, where His Holiness will also attend a long life prayer offered to him by the Tibetan community there on August 25, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama is expected to return to Dharamsala, India, on August 28, 2024.
According office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, His Holiness the Dalai Lama departed for New York on August 20, 2024, after completing a six-week recovery period at the Nappi Farmhouse in Syracuse, New York, following successful knee replacement surgery on June 28, 2024. During his stay, His Holiness received exceptional care and worked intensively with his physiotherapists to ensure a smooth recovery.
"His Holiness would like to express his gratitude to his friends Sam and Carol Nappi for their exceptional hospitality and for coordinating the arrangements that ensured the successful knee replacement surgery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New York," the office of His Holiness wrote.
"We are also deeply thankful for their efforts in assembling the physical therapy team and physicians at Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse, New York. The doctors and staff at both the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and Upstate Medical University in Syracuse provided exemplary medical care and unwavering support throughout the process," the office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama stated on August 20, 2024.
Dr. David Mayman, MD, Chief of the Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, visited His Holiness the Dalai Lama August 3-4, 2024. After examining His Holiness’s knee and observing the physical therapy exercises, Dr. Mayman said, "His Holiness is recovering well, he is working diligently with physical therapy and making great progress. This will continue over the next 6 to 12 months to optimize his recovery. His Holiness has made significant improvements to date, and we expect this to continue for a full year after surgery."
His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited the Namgyal Monastery Institute of Buddhist Studies in Ithaca, New York on August 16, 2024 and His Holiness departed for New York on August 20, 2024. Where the Tibetan communities in North America, Mongolians and other Himalayan communities will offer a long life prayer to His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, USA on August 22, 2024 from 9am to 10am.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama will travel to Zurich, Switzerland on Friday August 23, 2024 and the Tibetan community there will offer another long life prayer to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama at the Hallenstadion, North Zurich, on August 25, 2024 from 9am to 10am and His Holiness will give a short teaching to the Tibetans and people gathered there.
His Holiness will depart from Zurich for New Delhi on August 26 and is expected to return to Dharamsala, India, on August 28, 2024. Tibetans around Dharamshala are eagerly awaiting the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to his residence in Dharamshala after a two-month absence.
