Dharamshala — Kalon Gyari Dolma recently acclaimed works of former political prisoners and encouraged Tibetans to amplify their own voices in the world through platform of media in an occasion of a new book launch.
A new Tibetan book titled Famous Women in the World, edited and translated by writer and former political prisoner Ghang Lhamo, was launched on Monday, May 16. Gyari Dolma, Kalon of the Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration, launched this new book at the LTWA hall, Gangchen Kyishong. This book is published by the Sarah Tibet Publication in Dharamshala.
According to the introduction of this book, this edited volume of Famous Women in the World contains stories of 21 women in the world from different background. These women may be scholars, famous writers, political figures, or disabled people, who are not necessarily from rich family or have pretty appearance. However, for each of them, one's hard work has won the respect of people around the world. This volume includes famous figures like Aung San Suu Kyi, Nadine Gordimer, Margaret Thatcher, etc. The original versions of these stories were from various Chinese or English resources, compiled and translated into Tibetan by Ms Ghang Lhamo.
Kalon Dolma at the launch of Famous Women in the World spoke highly of Ghang Lhamo's work. As She said, "I would like to congratulate Ms Ghang Lhamo on her inspiring work. Her contribution to Tibetan literature, preservation of Tibetan history, empowerment of Tibetan political prisoners and the Tibetan movement has been remarkably inspirational."
Kalon highlighted, "I strongly commend the works of many Tibetan political prisoners in Tibet and exile, who have sacrificed their personal well being to put out the truth of Tibetan struggle in the world." And she added, "Over the years, the influence of writers and journalists on society and movements have grown exponentially in the world. Tibetan writers and journalists should therefore focus on amplifying our voices in the world through platform of media."
The writer, Ghang Lhamo, also a member of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and a former political prisoner said, "the book carries voices of women pioneers who have influenced the world with their indomitable spirit and paved way for gender inclusion in the world." Ghang Lhamo also informed the audience about four of her upcoming new books, which will be published next year.
