Toronto — Activists, human rights defenders from Tibet, Taiwan, East Turkestan, Hong Kong, Vietnam and China have strongly protested against the Chinese government (PRC) ahead of China's 75th National Day on October 1, 2024. They said: They said, “PRC is build upon the blood and deaths of innocent lives of Tibetans, Ughurs, Hongkongers, Taiwanese and many more. This is not a day for celebration rather a day to mourn.”
The protest held in front of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in Toronto, on September 30, 2024. Which was organised by Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario-CTAO, Canada Hong Kong Link, Democratic Party of China, Dhokham Chushigangdruk Canada, East Turkestan Association of Canada, Federation for a Democratic China, RTYC Toronto, and Toronto Association for Democracy in China, Taiwanese Human Rights Association of Canada, Tibetan Women's Association of Ontario and Vietnamese Community of Toronto Greater Area.
One of the Chinese activists said: “We are here with the same goal, our goal is to end 75 years of CCP dictatorship in China. For us, October 1st is not a national day; it's a day of protest and solidarity, a day of remembrance and a day of resistance. We oppose China's forced occupation of Tibet, the forced concentration camps in East Turkestan, and we remember the Tiananmen massacre and the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong. We are remembering them and we have not forgotten them.”
“No one is free until everyone is free; if only we can free Tibet, liberate East Turkestan, Taiwan Independent, if only we can do this, China will be free, we who believe in freedom, cannot rest until it comes,” she added.
A Hong Kong activist said: “Dictatorship destroys humanity, the Chinese Communist Party destroys humanity, and dictators treat people as slaves and those who seek freedom as enemies. They spend money and resources to control and suppress their own people, those who think you have freedom and an independent mind, that you can think as a human being, you are the enemy of the CCP, they make laws to deal with it, even in free countries, as we speak, every one of us is in danger, our family members in back home are threatened and harassed.”
While explaining the Chinese government had forcibly placed around one million Tibetan children in Chinese boarding schools, the Tibetan representative said, “these Tibetan children forcibly placed in Chinese boarding schools, they are scared of being taken away from their parents, their grandparents, and their homes. I think they (Chinese leaders) are demons, the Chinese government, the CCP, you are not part of humanity, because you are destroying it".
She questioned by saying, “How can you (the Chinese leaders) sleep at night putting innocent people through hell every day, how can you put political prisoners who protect human rights through hell, how can you do that? I ask the Canadian government and the United Nations how you (the world's leaders) can watch these things happening in Tibet, Eastern Kurdistan and Hong Kong in everyday life?.
Members of the Tibetan, Uyghur, Hong Kong and Chinese communities collectively expressed their strong opposition to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), on September 30 and October 1, 2024 by staging protests in various locations around the world. These protests occurred to coincide with the anniversary of the founding of the PRC, and highlighted concerns about the CCP's repression of individuals and groups defending human rights, cultural preservation, religious freedom and linguistic freedom.
