Dharamshala — Tibetan Youth Congress and Tibetans in Dharamshala held a solidarity prayer for Tibetans in Tibet, who are suffering from the recent covid-19 outbreaks in Tibet, especially in Lhasa, as well as for those affected by natural disasters, including floods.
The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) organised a solidarity prayer for Tibetan brothers and sisters in Tibet to overcome the recent outbreak of covid-19 in Lhasa and other parts of Tibet, at Tsuglhakhang, the main Tibetan temple in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamshala, H.P., India on August 25th, 2022. Tibetans from Mcleod Ganj joined the solidarity prayer and chanted prayers for about two hours in the evening.
Gonpo Dhundup, President of Tibetan Youth Congress said, “Today we are holding a solidarity prayer for the Tibetan brothers and sisters in Tibet to overcome the pandemic that is spreading in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, and in other parts of Tibet. In the name of the "covid-19" policy, the Chinese authorities are making the lives of Tibetans even more miserable and difficult.”
“We pray that our brothers and sisters who are suffering from the pandemic will recover quickly, and that those who have died from the pandemic may rest in peace,” the TYC President said.
“We also pray for our Tibetan brothers and sisters, who are affected by natural disasters, especially the floods in the Larung and Regong areas in the Amdo region of Tibet, that they may overcome the difficulties and that there will be no more natural disasters in the world,” Gonpo concluded.
The first cases of covid-19 were detected in Lhasa and other areas near Lhasa in early August 2022, after Chinese tourists arrived in Lhasa. Since then, the number of cases has been increasing day by day, and the Chinese authorities have imposed strict rules on Tibetans, including routine testing, quarantines, travel restrictions and mandatory lockdowns, making life for Tibetans even harder and more difficult.
