Mumbai — The Menlhai Jamtse Tibetan Buddhist Centre celebrates the 87th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in Versova, Mumbai, by explaining His Holiness' four commitments to Tibetans and Indians in the region on July 6, 2022.

The celebration of the 87th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama began with the enthronement of the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama by Geshe Lobsang Tenzin and other members of the congregation, followed by the lighting of the lamp.

Afterward, the Geshe La and Tashi La recited the long life prayer for His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which the congregation chanted in unison. The Geshe La then spoke about the auspices of July 6, the birthday of His Holiness and the four commitments of His Holiness the Dalai lama, these Include: Promotion of universal values, Promotion of religious harmony, Preservation of Tibetan culture and environment, and Revival of ancient Indian wisdom.

This was followed by the reading of the Biography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the vote of thanks, and the Cake cutting ceremony. The celebration ended with a traditional dance performed by the congregants.

Mr Ambrish, a long-time member and contributor to the centre, and a flight attendant by profession, said that the centre and Geshe La's teachings have helped him to free himself from his extremely stressful job. He added that meditation has given him great peace and perspective, and also said that young people are needed to spread the teachings of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, which will help us and others to live in happiness and harmony.

According to community member Ngawang Tenzin, this celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's birthday is the first time after the Covid-19 pandemic and the event is well attended by Tibetans and Indians in the region. He hopes it will grow, as Geshe La's wish is to stay in Mumbai permanently, helping people deal with mental health issues such as anxiety, stress and anger through meditation and Buddhist teachings.

Menlhai Jamtse Tibetan Buddhist Centre Mumbai, founded in 2018 by Geshe Lobsang Tenzin. Geshe La has dedicated his life to offer his service to provide Buddhist Education to the local people.
