New York — Richard Gere, the renowned American actor, longtime friend of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and steadfast advocate for global human rights—particularly Tibetan human rights—will receive Human Rights First's Inaugural Visionary Award in recognition of his lifetime of outstanding achievements in defending human rights.

Paris  — The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Cultural Rights has issued an official statement expressing deep concern over the removal of the word ‘Tibet’ from exhibitions organised by major French museums. She asserts that replacing the word ‘Tibet’ with “Xizang” or ‘Himalayan world’ undermines the rights of Tibetans to enjoy their cultural heritage and to self-determination.

Geneva — Australia condemns human rights violations committed by the Chinese government in Tibet and calls on governments not to interfere in the selection of the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

Washington, D.C. — The United States Department of State released it's 2024 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices on Tuesady, detailing surveillance and control, arbitrary detention, arrest, imprisonment, and severe restrictions on freedom of expression, belief, and movement in East Turkestan, Hong Kong, and Tibet. It also reported on the Chinese government's transnational repression of Tibetan activists in free countries.

London — His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet and the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, awarded the prestigious International Peace Prize by the International Council of Jurists. The prize was given in recognition of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's "lifelong commitment to non-violence, global peace, and universal compassion."
