IBC celebrates extraordinary life and legacy of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet

New Delhi — The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) celebrated His Holiness the Dalai Lama's profound contributions to promoting peace, non-violence, interfaith dialogue, and universal responsibility in an increasingly complex world. IBC said, “through this tribute, we reaffirm our commitment to carrying forward His Holiness’ vision for a more mindful, compassionate, and harmonious global community.”

The International Buddhist Confederation organised a conference, “Celebrating Glorious 90 years of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama - Spiritual Wisdom and Global Relevance” on July 13, 2025 at the Ashok, New Delhi, India. Tibetan lamas and Buddhist leaders, Representatives from Buddhist countries, Thailand, India, Korea and Sri Lanka, etc. were all present.

They said, “The His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama is also a deeply revered personage across Buddhist countries and communities, perceived as the living manifestation of the Buddha of Compassion and the foremost holder in the world today of the Nalanda Tradition. In contemporary times, no single figure has done as much to revive the flourishing of Buddhism and Buddhist institutions in the Himalayan region, guiding them on how to revivify their dharma study and practice; to see the Pali and Sanskrit traditions as complementary, and foster a deep bridging conversation between the two; to attract the devout from across East and Southeast Asia for his discourses and teachings, and to spread the teachings in the Western world.”

“In today’s troubled times, His Holiness has earned his place as a truly global icon for a non-violent approach; as a man of unbiased and unconditional love; and as a believer in the truth. Upholding these values throughout his life and the most challenging circumstances has made his very name synonymous with compassion. The unparalleled stature and unanimous respect across the globe for His Holiness is evident in his being honoured with over 150 significant awards by various countries and universities, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, felicitated the world over time and again for his contributions as an esteemed leader with a vision and message of non-violence, peace and compassion that resonates with all,” they added.

The Representatives of Buddhists and intellectuals gathered to celebrate the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama have adopted a declaration for the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama on July 13, 2025.

The declaration stated, "A Beacon of Compassion: Celebrating 90 Years of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama" On this sacred and joyous occasion celebrating glorious 90 years of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the International Buddhist Confederation and all the participants present today offer our deepest reverence and boundless gratitude to a life devoted to the service of humanity, peace, and spiritual wisdom.

“For nine extraordinary decades, His Holiness has been a living embodiment of compassion, courage, and moral clarity. From the highlands of Tibet to the farthest corners of the world, his teachings have transcended borders and beliefs. Inspiring millions to walk the path of non-violence, harmony, and inner awakening as the revered manifestation of Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, His Holiness has upheld and revitalized the precious traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, while also emerging as a global voice of conscience in contemporary times.

“As we reflect on 90 years of His Holiness' life, we celebrate his profound impact as a global advocate for peace, understanding, and universal responsibility. His message of compassion transcends cultural and religious boundaries, inspiring countless individuals to cultivate inner peace and work towards a more harmonious world. His enduring spirit and unwavering dedication to the well-being of all sentient beings serve as a powerful testament to the timeless values he embodies.

“Throughout his remarkable life, His Holiness has exemplified profound spiritual leadership. He has consistently championed the preservation of rich Tibetan culture and religious freedom, guiding his people with unwavering resolve. His recent statement announcing the continuation of his reincarnation, and only by Tibetan people without any foreign interference is a testament of preserving its culture and heritage.

“We pay tribute to his enduring efforts in preserving the Tibetan identity, his unflinching commitment to interfaith dialogue, and his far-sighted vision for a future rooted in ethical values and universal responsibility. His wisdom in safeguarding the sacred institution of the Dalai Lama-particularly his clear and courageous stance on its future-stands as a beacon of spiritual integrity in the modern world.
