Dharamshala — His Holiness the Dalai Lama congratulated Mark Carney, on his election as Prime Minister of Canada on Monday. His Holiness wrote: "I wish you every success in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Canada and in contributing to global peace and stability."
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, spiritual leader of Tibet, has written to Mark Carney, Prime Minister-elect of Canada, to congratulate him on his victory in the national election on April 28, 2025.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama writes: "During my visits to Canada over the years. I have been deeply touched by the warmth of the friendship and affection that Canadians have shown me. I also take it as a great privilege to be an honorary Canadian citizen myself. I am an admirer of Canada, a multicultural society which enjoys a vibrant democracy."
"As I have mentioned to your predecessors, I would like to express my gratitude to the government and people of Canada for your continued support and assistance to the Tibetan people," the Spiritual Leader of Tibet wrote.
His Holiness wrote, "I wish you every success in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Canada and in contributing to global peace and stability.” He concluded the congratulatory letter by offering his prayers and good wishes.
The 2025 Canadian federal election was held on April 28, 2025, to elect members of the House of Commons for the 45th Parliament of Canada and the Prime Minister of Canada. Mark Carney's party, the Liberal Party of Canada, won the general election and he became Canada's 24th Prime Minister.
