He also called on the Chinese government to accept assistance from the international community to help the victims of the earthquake in Tibet.

Mounir Satouri wrote, "I am writing to express my sincere condolences for the devastating earthquake that struck Tibet on 7 January 2025. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and those injured.

"In this difficult moment, we stand in solidarity with the people of Tibet. An event of such a disastrous magnitude leaves behind a trail of destruction that can only be overcome with collective determination. The people of Tibet are called upon to rebuild their lives, their homes and their communities. Tibetans will prevail over this tragedy through their resolve and the resilience that characterises them as a people.

"In this dire time, it is imperative that the Chinese authorities accept the assistance of the international community so that humanitarian aid can reach Tibetans and alleviate a small degree of the hardship they are enduring. The European Parliament has consistently been vocal on Tibet, as was demonstrated in the resolution of December 2023, where it expressed its strong concern about the forced assimilation practices taking place in Tibet through Chinese boarding schools. We have repeatedly called on the Chinese authorities to take concrete action towards the improvement of the human rights situation in the region.

"Let me assure you that the Parliament remains determined to monitor closely the human rights situation in Tibet, as illustrated by the exchange of views held in our subcommittee in December 2024, following up on the EU-China Human Rights Dialogue, during which the situation in Tibet was extensively deliberated upon."

Genkhang Rigzin Choedon, Representative of the Office of Tibet Brussels, expressed her deepest gratitude for the heartfelt message of solidarity and support. She wrote, "Your commitment to standing by us in this time of need is a source of immense strength, and we are profoundly touched by your concern for the welfare of our people. It is through such gestures that we will find the resilience to heal."
