Dharamshala — Members of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile elected the Chief Justice Commissioner and two other Justice Commissioners of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission (TSJC) on their the twelfth day of the ninth session. This brings to an end the constitutional crisis of recent years.
Twelfth day of the ninth session of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, on March 29, 2025. The members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile elected Yeshi Wangmo, Secretary of the TSJC, as Chief of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission, and MP Dawa Phunkyi and former Kalon Phagpa Tsering as the other two Justice Commissioners of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission, by secret ballot.
Yeshi Wangmo, was elected Chief Justice Commissioner with 31 votes, while Sonam Gyaltsen, professor of the College for Higher Tibetan Studies (CHTS) at Sarah, Dharamshala received 12 votes. With this victory, Yeshi Wangmo becomes the first woman to be elected Chief Justice Commissioner in the TSJC.
MP Dawa Phunkyi received 25 votes against MP Youdon Aukatsang (4 votes), Phurbu Dorjee (9 votes), and 4 null votes and was elected as a Justice Commissioner of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission.
Former Kalon Phagpa Tsering was elected as a Justice Commissioner with 31 votes, defeating former parliamentarian Gyari Kalsang Tsewang, who received 12 votes.
The MPs also elected Tashi Topgyal, Secretary of Office of Auditor General, as the Auditor General of the Office of Auditor General with 32 votes against Samten Norbu with 8 votes and 3 null votes.
