Tibetan leaders express condolences on demise of Shri Kishan Kapoor, longtime Tibet supporter

Dharamshala — Sikyong Penpa Tsering and Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang expressed condolences on the demise of Shri Kishan Kapoor, former Indian MP and a long-time supporter of Tibet, who passed away on 1 February 2025. Sikyong wrote," we mourn the loss of a genuine friend and ally whose unwavering support for Tibet will always be cherished with deep gratitude."

On Febraury 3, 2025, Sikyong Penpa Tsering of the Central Tibetan Administration and Dolma Tsering Teykhang, the Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile wrote to Smt. Rekha Kapoor, wife of Shri Kishan Kapoor, to express their condolences on the demise of Shri Kishan Kapoor, former Indian MP and a long-time supporter of Tibet, who passed away on 1 February 2025.

In a heartfelt condolence letter addressed to Rekha Kapoor, Sikyong extended his deepest sympathies, remembering Shri Kishan Kapoor Ji as a true friend of Tibet. He recalled Kapoor Ji’s deep respect for His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his continuous efforts to have the spiritual leader honoured with India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna.

Beyond his admiration for His Holiness, Shri Kishan Kapoor Ji was a strong advocate for Tibet, often emphasising the need for a peaceful resolution to the border dispute with China and recognising Tibet’s central role in the issue.

"As a steadfast advocate, he stood in solidarity with the Tibetan cause. Today, we mourn the loss of a genuine friend and ally whose unwavering support for Tibet will always be cherished with deep gratitude," Sikyong wrote in his message.

He conveyed his prayers and condolences to the Rekha Kapoor, the Kapoor family and all those who had the privilege of knowing Shri Kishan Kapoor Ji during this difficult time.

Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang wrote, "It is with deep sorrow that we learned the demise of your beloved husband, Honourable Shri. Kishan Kapoor Ji. On behalf of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and Tibetans around the world, I extend our heartfelt condolences to you, your family and his well-wishers during this difficult time."

“I had the honour of meeting him on several occasions as part of the Tibetan Parliamentary delegation. During those moments, his unwavering support for the just cause of Tibet was commendable. I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Shri Kishan Ji for his steadfast solidarity with our cause. He will always be remembered for his remarkable service to the nation and its people," She said.

“We pay our homage to the departed soul and would treasure his contribution towards truth and justice. Once again, I offer my heartfelt sympathy and prayers for your family. May the Almighty grant you the strength and courage to bear this sorrow," the Deputy Speaker concluded.
