Dharamshala — The film ‘Four Rivers, Six Ranges’ was premiered in Dharamshala, to celebrate the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Chief Minister Pema Khadu, Indian MP Shri Tapir Gao, Famous actor and Tibet supporter Richard Gere, were present at the opening of the film. People felt strong emotions after watching this historical film, and they loved it!
The film ‘Four Rivers, Six Ranges’ was premiered in Dharamshala, a the hall of the Upper Tibetan Village School, on July 5, 2025, to celebrate the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. Sikyong Penpa Tsering, Chief Minister Pema Khadu, Indian MP Shri Tapir Gao, Famous actor and Tibet supporter Richard Gere, CTA security minister Gyari Dolma, ICT President Tenchoe Gyatso, Chief Commissioner Yeshe Wangmo, Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering were present at the opening of the film, the hall was full and people felt strong emotions after watching this historical film.
The film is about Tibetan resistance against so-called Chinese Liberal army during the invasion of Tibet in 1959. The "Four Rivers, Six Ranges" based on the Book “Flight at the cuckoo’s behest: The Life and Times of a Tibetan Freedom Fighter” by Kunga Samten Dewatshang. The Film was shot in the Himalayan Mountains of Mustang, Nepal. Produced by Dorjee Wangdi Dewatshang and written, produced, music and directed by Shenpenn Khymsar. Main actors Tenzin Dhondup and Thupten Chukhatsang and other actors including Tenzin Rigzin, Tashi Kalden, TEn B. Jigmey, Palden Dikhang, Madon Nyima, Pema Tsamchoe, Tenzein Choden, Namjaytsang Abukarma, Sherap Gyaltsen and Tadming Arts etc.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering spoke before the screening of the film and said that Tibetans should know the history of their own country, there are many ways to understand our history and film is one of the most effective ways as many people like to watch. This type of film is also a way of raising public awareness of the Tibet issue.
Director Shenpenn Khymsar said at the film's opening: "We are working together and fighting against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The CCP must apologise to Tibetans because they have taken our country (Tibet), destroyed our monasteries, taken our natural resources, and they call our great leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a separatist, the greatest human being who has ever lived on earth, how dare they? So we must start fighting the CCP and claim our country back."
Famed actor Richard Gere addressed the film's audience and said: “It's incredibly difficult to make a film like this, he has done it, I love his energy and I wish him well”.
The film ‘Four Rivers, Six Ranges’ begins by showing Tibetans fighting the Chinese Communist Party army when it invaded a village in Lhasa, and how the ‘Four Rivers, Six Ranges’ organisation was founded by Adruk Gonpo Tashi and his Tibetan followers to protect Tibet from the Chinese invaders. They then began to fight the Chinese invaders, leaving their wives and children in their homes. When Lhasa became an intensive and dangerous city, the Tibetans of Chushi Gangdruk escorted His Holiness the Dalai Lama safely to the Indian border, then returned to fight the Chinese invaders, and many of them died in the fighting. After watching the film, people, especially young people, had tears in their eyes, moved to see their grandfathers and Tibetans risking their lives to fight against the Chinese invaders to protect Tibet from invasion.
