Toronto — Tibetans in Toronto, New York and India commemorated the 37th anniversary of the Tibetan protests in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, on September 27 by paying tribute to the brave Tibetans who courageously protested against China's oppressive policies in Lhasa from 1987 to 1989. Tibetan activists also protested against China's brutal repression of peaceful protesters, saying: “We will never forget their sacrifices”.

On September 27, 1987, 21 monks from Drepung Monastery in Lhasa gathered in the streets, holding up the Tibetan national flag (the Snow Lion flag) and chanting slogans of “Long Live His Holiness the Dalai Lama” and “Free Tibet”. This led to nearly two years of demonstrations and protests, the arrest of thousands of Tibetans, and an unknown number of deaths.

Dhokham Chushi Gangdruk Canada, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Toronto, Tibetan Women's Association of Ontario and Canadian Tibetan Association of Ontario-CTAO, organised a protest in front of the Chinese Consulate in Toronto, Canada, on September 27, 2024, to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the peaceful uprising of the Tibetan people in Lhasa on September 27, 1987.

More than 50 Tibetans gathered outside the Chinese Consulate in Toronto, Canada, on September 27, 2024, to protest against the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for violating Tibetans' human rights through its attempts to eliminate Tibetan identity by closing Tibetan schools, forcibly placing Tibetan children in Chinese colonial boarding schools, arresting Tibetan teachers, writers, singers and lamas, and ill-treating Tibetans, particularly peaceful Tibetans who are simply exercising their fundamental rights and protesting against the Chinese government's oppressive policies in Tibet.

The latest step in the elimination of Tibet is to replace the word “Tibet” with the Chinese word “Xizang” by Chinese government and the Tibetan activists said, “Tibet is not Xizang”, “language rights is our rights, Tibetan language is not crime,” “CCP stop destroying Tibetan Monasteries and Villages in Dege, Tibet”, “shut down China’s colonial boarding schools in Tibet, one million Tibetan children forced to live in Chinese government colonial schools and preschools in Tibet.”

The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (RYTC) of New York and New Jersey, USA, also protested outside the Chinese Consulate in New York, to commemorate the peaceful uprising of the Tibetan people in Lhasa on September 27, 1987. They call on China to stop close Tibetan schools and stop genocide in Tibet. Central Tibetan Youth Congress also commemorated the 37th anniversary of the Tibetan protests in Lhasa on September 27, 2024, in Chandigarh, India.

Tibetans, Ughurs, Hongkongers, Taiwanese and others will also protest against Chinese government (CCP) on September 29, 2024, to condemn PRC's national day, on October 1, 2024. The activists say, "PRC is building upon the blood and deaths of innocent lives of Tibetans, Ughurs, Hongkongers, Taiwanese and many more. This is not a day for celebration rather a day to mourn. We Tibetans will never ever give up on Tibet."
