Lhokha — Chinese authorities in Lhokha, southern Tibet, adopted new methods to teach CCP political education, patriotic education and President Xi Jinping's thoughts in Chinese to Tibetan monks in Tibetan monasteries in the Lhokha region to replace Tibetan. From this year onwards, they will intensify the propagation of the "four consciousnesses” of CCP among the general public and particularly monks in Tibet.
China enforces new patriotic education law for children, including Tibetans
Dharamshala — China's Ministry of Education announces a new law entitled <<The Patriotic Education Law of the People's Republic of China>>, which was passed on October 24, 2023 and will come into effect on January 1, 2024. It states that "while ensuring the patriotic education to all citizens, it emphasizes the education of youth and children at school and at home."
China detained eight Tibetans over collecting donations for religious offering
Dharamshala — Chinese authorities in Darlak county, eastern Tibet, detained eight Tibetans who were collecting donations for religious offerings. They have also announced a reward for reporting Tibetans' religious activities and other such actions, which the Chinese authorities consider illegal. This is a violation of the religious freedom of Tibetans in occupied Tibet.
China not only bars ex-Tibetan political prisoner from working, but also beats him up
Dharamshala — Former Tibetan political prisoner and Tibetan language advocate, Tashi Wangchuk, was detained and beaten by Chinese authorities on October 17, 2023, after he posted a video online of Chinese government officials refusing to register a license for his small car wash business.
China bans Tibetan language classes in primary and secondary schools in Karze, Tibet
Dharamshala — The Chinese Education Bureau has announced ban on Tibetan language classes in primary and secondary schools in so called Kardze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, which comprises 18 counties, in the Kham region of eastern Tibet. The students completing this academic year will be the last to have studied the Tibetan language in Kardze prefecture. This ban violates the fundamental rights of young Tibetans to learn their mother tongue.
China reinforced its strict controls on Tibetans ahead the PRC's 74th founding anniversary
Dharamshala — Chinese authorities stepped up their warnings and strict controls on Tibetans ahead of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the PRC. The Chinese authorities in Lhoka, in southern Tibet, announced the expulsion of three Tibetan officials from their office for violating so called "The Eight-point Regulation of the Centre", intended to warn Tibetans not to engage in any activity that goes against the Chinese government.
Chinese authorities jailed a Tibetan man for two years for contacting Tibetans in exile
Dharamshala — A Tibetan man from Ngaba in eastern Tibet has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Chinese government for allegedly contacting Tibetans abroad and posting photos of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet in exile, on a social media app. Under China's repressive policies towards the people of Tibet, it is illegal in Tibet to contact family members abroad or have photos of their spiritual leader (who lives in exile).
