Dharamshala, India: - 35-year-old Rinchen Bom from Amdo, eastern Tibet works at a temporary hire employment center in McLeodganj, Dharamshala. His work varies according to the town's needs - ranging from jewelry-making to masonry painting, cooking, washing dishes, and other small jobs.

Dharamshala, India: - About halfway down Temple Road in McLeodganj, northern India, with about seven clothes shops on one side and countless street merchants on the other, you can find a small and irresistibly trendy café called Coffee Talk.

Bylakuppe, South India: - 61-year-old Tsering Lhamo lives in the third camp of the Tibetan settlement in Bylakuppe, south India - the largest settlement of its kind. In 1959, aged ten, she came to India with her parents and attended school in Bylakuppe until fourth grade.

North Carolina, US:  - One does not see many foreigners at Drepung Loseling Monastery, located at Mundgod Tibetan settlement in the south Indian state of Karnataka. It is a remote place, populated by thousands of maroon-robed monks - monks debating, monks chanting, monks eating chowmein and fried rice, monks drinking chai, and young monks going to school.

London- The education of Tibetan children in exile is of paramount importance to the Tibet cause. Many would deem that teaching children about their homeland, most of whom have never even seen Tibet would be difficult. However, as a shining beacon of hope, the Tibetan community in Woolwich, London (UK) have proved otherwise.

In a series of special features, Tibet Post journalist Colleen McKown reports from India's largest Tibetan settlement, Mundgod, in south India.

Mundgod, India: - Many elderly members of Mundgod's Tibetan community, south India, live at the settlement's several old-age homes. The managers and residents of the Camp Three facility agreed to speak to the Tibet Post.

Mundgod, India: -  The Tibetan Service Co-operative Bank in Mundgod is supported by His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Central Tibetan Relief Committee in Dharamshala. The co-operative aims to help farmers achieve a sustainable living and ultimately self-sufficiency.

Mundgod, India: - Agriculture is the main industry in the Mundgod settlement.  This year, farmers faced a difficulties due to the heavy monsoon.  The Tibet Post spoke with some of them about their farming lifestyle and its various challenges.

 

 

Mundgod, India:  Tenzin Choney (26), lives in Mundgod with her husband Tenzin Choyang (45), her uncle Kyap Tsering (95), and her two-year-old daughter Tenzin Dawoe.  The Tibet Post talked with her in her home about her family life, views on life in Mundgod and future hopes.

Mundgod, India:  Tharlane Changra is the principal of the Central School for Tibetans (CST) in Mundgod.  She has been working for the CST network for 35 years and spoke with The Tibet Post about her views on education and the preservation of Tibetan identity among young people.
