San Francisco — Members of Students for a Free Tibet protested against Xi Jinping's visit to the United States at San Francisco's Moscone Center. They climbed the Moscone Center and unfurled a banner reading: "Dictator Xi Jinping, your time is up" and shouting ‘Free Tibet now, you are not welcome in the free country and you violate the human rights of the Tibetan people’.
On November 10, 2023, three members of Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) protested against Xi Jinping’s visit to United States of America at Moscone Center in San Francisco, where world leaders will commence the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit. Tibet activists shouted out: Dictator Xi Jinping, your time is up, free Tibet; you are not welcome here and free Tibet now.
SFT stated, "This action sets the tone for the APEC Summit: human rights must be front and center on the agenda. By dropping this banner on the building where the APEC Summit is being held, it sends a clear message that Xi cannot hide from the countless people united against his authoritarian regime."
One of the student activists that unfurled the Moscone Center banner, 17 year-old Tenzin Namgyal, shares this message to world about why we must resist Xi at APEC. No matter what the CCP says or does, Tibetans will always resist the Chinese occupation of our homeland. He said, "Throughout the years, Tibetans have remained resilient, and we will continue to resist and fight back against oppression. We ask the international community to listen to our message: Xi Jinping, your time is up and Tibet will be free."
Pema Doma, executive director of SFT said, "the Chinese Consulate’s call for a pro-CCP protest to welcome Xi Jinping to the US comes just days after SFT announced a massive cross-movement protest with Tibetan, Uyghur, and Hong Konger activists coming together to unwelcome Xi to San Francisco by exposing his genocidal policies and gross human rights violations."
"The truth is: Xi Jinping is a coward! He is a coward that has been hiding for over six years, since before the COVID-19 pandemic, before the death of whistle-blower Dr. Li Wenliang, before he illegally abolished the Chinese government’s own presidential term limit, before 1 million Tibetan children were torn from their families, before the National Security Law crushed all remaining semblance of democracy in Hong Kong. But now that he can no longer hide, the CCP will instead use propaganda to yet again slander our narratives because he is too cowardly to face the world," Pema explained.
A large big protest will be on November 15, 2023, in front of the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, against Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the APEC summit 2023. San Francisco Regional Tibetan Youth Congress (SFRTYC), Student's for a Free Tibet Bay Area (SFT Bay Area), Bay Area Friends of Tibet (BayFot) to organise a protest along with many other cross movement groups (Uyghurs, Hong Kongers, Taiwanese, Southern Mongolians, Chinese dissents and our allies).
