Dharamshala, India – Following the recent elections in Finland, Petteri Orpo became Prime Minister of Finland. His Holiness wrote to congratulate him shortly afterwards. The spiritual leader of Tibet wished him every success in meeting the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the people of Finland as well as contributing to a more peaceful, more compassionate world.
Petteri Orpo won the election and took office as Prime Minister on June 20, 2023. His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet wrote from his residence in Dharamshala to Petteri Orpo on June 23, 2023 to congratulate him on becoming Prime Minister of Finland.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote his congratulatory letter, “Over the years, I have been able to visit your beautiful country on several occasions, I have been encouraged by the interest the people of Finland, young and old, have shown in what I have to say about developing love and compassion, cultivating an appreciation of the oneness of humanity and acknowledging the importance of inter-religious harmony,” appreciating Finland and its people.
“Today, the world is passing through very difficult times. It is distressing to see so many people in so many parts of the world suffering due to violent combat. The international community must make concerted efforts to resolve such conflicts by peaceful means. Engaging in dialogue is the only way to achieve a world free from the harm done by weapons,” His Holiness wrote.
His Holiness concluded the letter by wishing the Prime Minister success and glory, and wishing him to contribute to a more peaceful and compassionate world.
Antti Petteri Orpo, 53, is a Finnish politician, currently Prime Minister of Finland and leader of the National Coalition Party since 2016. He was also Deputy Prime Minister of Finland from 2017 to 2019.
