Dharamsala: Yesterday evening, to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the Tibetan Women's Association held a discussion panel on Tibetan gender equality at the TCV day school in Mcleod Ganj. Four leading members of the exile community spent ten minutes each voicing their perspectives on women's rights both in exile and inside Tibet, and afterwards answered a series of questions posed by the audience. About 80 people attended the discussion-a mixture of women and men, Tibetans and foreigners.
Bangalore: In a show of gratitude to the government and people of India, Tibetans in exile will exhibit Tibet's cultural heritage in a three-day festival in the south Indian city of Bangalore from 22-24 November. The celebration will bring some of the most important Tibetan exile institutions together to showcase the Tibetan refugees' accomplishments in community building, education and cultural preservation.
Dharamshala: An 18-member Tibetan Parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Penpa Tsering will take part in the '5th World Parliamentarians' Convention on Tibet' in Italy's capital Rome from 18 - 19 November.
Dharamsala: The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) today began broadcasting a government cable channel, with the support of Bhagsu local cable operator P.C. Bhagat. During a launching ceremony held at the CTA's Department of Information and International Relations, Tibetan Prime Minister Prof Samdong Rinpoche and Information Minister Kesang Yangkyi Takla spoke about how the new channel, "Tibet TV", will serve the local community.
New York: In response to US President Barack Obama's brief reference to Tibet during his visit to Beijing this week, Students for a Free Tibet is calling on the Obama administration and other democratically elected governments to move beyond verbal statements of support, to press China for real change inside Tibet. By calling for the resumption of dialogue between the Chinese government and His Holiness the Dalai Lama's representatives, President Obama indicated that the issue remains a concern for the US government. However, his statement, which also recognized Tibet as a part of the People's Republic of China, failed to address the reality of the Chinese government's ongoing violent repression of the Tibetan people.

Berkeley, CA, USA: San Francisco Bay Area Tibetans gathered Saturday night, 24 October, for a candlelight vigil, after receiving the tragic report from the Tibetan Center for Human Rights in India that the Chinese government had executed four Tibetan activists on 20 October. The men were convicted for their alleged involvement in the March 2008 uprising in Lhasa, in a move activists are decrying as a violation of international human rights law.
