The government of Nepal banned a public celebration of the Dalai Lama’s birthday in Kathmandu on July 6, further undermining the human rights and civil liberties of both Tibetans and Nepalese citizens who revere the Dalai Lama as their spiritual master.
Dharamshala, India —The Sixth All India Tibet Support Groups Conference strongly expressed its position saying they "recognize the Central Tibetan Administration as the legitimate representative of Tibetans within and outside Tibet, while "reaffirm Our Commitment to support Tibetan people’s legitimate quest for dignity, justice, and peace in Tibet."
Dharamshala, India — Their presence remains strongly in support and solidarity with the Tibetan people, both inside and outside Tibet, an array of Members of Parliament from India, EU, Germany, Canada, Slovakia, Italy, Peru, Taiwan gathered at the main Tibetan temple in Dharamshala, India, in a sombre commemoration to mark the 60th anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising.
Dharamshala, India — “Historically, according to Chinese documents, Tibet, Mongolia and China were independent nations in the 7th, 8th and 9th centuries,” His Holiness told a group of students from the USA and Israel. But he said: “However, the past is past. We need to take account of the reality today. We are not seeking separate status for Tibet."
Dharamshala, India — In what is seen as a "systematic" attempt to whitewash the grave human rights situation and the tragic reality in the last 60 years of illegal occupation of Tibet, China issued a new white paper on Tibet titled “Democratic Reform in Tibet: Sixty Years On,” said the Department of Information & International Relations (DIIR) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).
Dharamshala, India — The former President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr Serêtsê Khama Ian Khama met the Dalai Lama in Dharamshala, India, despite strong pressure from the Chinese totalitarian government. Khama ends his trip by attending the 60th anniversary of the failed Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule that forced the spiritual leader of Tibet to flee to India, March 10, 2019.
Washington, DC — The United States Department of State supports the goals of the Reciprocal Access to Tibet Act and will take steps to implement the bill if it becomes law, a department official said at a Subcommittee Hearing titled ‘The China Challenge, Part 3: Democracy, Human Rights, and the Rule of Law’ on 4 December.
