The National Endowment for Democracy, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic, Washington, DC and the Vaclav Havel Library, Prague, Czech Republic, held a Memorial Tribute honoring the life and work of Vaclav Havel today in Washington, D.C. NED Carl Gershman read His Holiness the Dalai Lama's message (see text below) while Secretary Madeleine Albright read a statement from President Obama. There was a video message from Aung San Suu Kyi, too.

Dharamshala, India: - Mr Tenpa Soepa, a retired civil servant of Tibetan government, who later underwent twenty years of untold suffering after the Chinese invasion of Tibet, passed away in New Delhi on 13 December 2011. He was 78.

Inspired by the international book fair in Beijing that has just ended, several Chinese writers in China and elsewhere took action to register a non-governmental organisation in The Netherlands under the Dutch law, the "International Alliance For Chinese Writers."

Dharamshala: In an address the 17th Karmapa, officially known as His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, made to the media regarding the end of the current year and the fast approaching new year, he stated that he wishes we live this year with mutual love and respect for one another and for the earth that is our common home.

Dharjeeling: - The much awaited Thanks Giving Program in honor of Dr. T. Wangdi M.B.B.S (Cal) former Chief Medical Officer of the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre (TRSHC) was held on Sunday, the 16th October 2011 at the Centre in Darjeeling. The Program began at 10:15am with Doctor-la lighting a butter lamp in front of the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Dharamshala, India: As a part of the annual program, a group of Burmese refugee students and activists visits Dharamshala from 22nd to 24th September. The main aim of their visit is to learn more about the Tibetan struggle, get a sense of organization and the different strata of the community.
