Dehradun— Tibetan Youth Congress today began its "TYC Cycle Rally: Against Chinese Cultural Genocide in Tibet". The rally aims to denounce the atrocities committed by the Chinese Communist regime in Tibet and to oppose its illegitimate rule in Tibet, as well as to draw the urgent attention of the international community to the ongoing cultural genocide in Tibet, where China is imposing harsh policies aimed at systematically eliminating Tibetan culture and identity.

Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) organised a cycle rally from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, to New Delhi, via Chandigarh. TYC began its cycle rally for Tibet entitled "TYC Cycle Rally: Against Chinese Cultural Genocide in Tibet" in Dekyiling, Dehradun, on September 24, 2024. Over 50 volunteers from North India chapters of TYC participated in the cycle rally. They will reach in New Delhi on Octorber 1, 2024, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 2024.

TYC released a statement regarding the cycle rally and it mentioned, "the primary objective of this rally is to expose the atrocities committed by the Chinese Communist Regime in Tibet and oppose its illegitimate rule, which has persisted for over six decades."

"We aim to draw urgent international attention to the ongoing cultural genocide in Tibet, where China is imposing hardline policies to systematically eliminate Tibetan culture and identity. These policies include forcing Tibetan children into colonial-style boarding schools, restricting access to Tibetan culture-related curriculum activities, and imprisoning teachers and individuals preserving the Tibetan language. This also includes the forceful closure of Tibetan schools and monastic institutions, which have long played a vital role in preserving and protecting Tibetan culture, language, and spiritual heritage," the Tibetan activists said.

"According to the latest reports, approximately 1,700 young monks from Kirti Monastery and two other monasteries in Dzoge County, Ngaba, in the traditional region of Amdo (now incorporated into Sichuan Province), have been forcibly removed from monastic life and enrolled in government-run, colonial-style boarding schools against the wishes and consent of both the monks and their parents. This egregious violation of their rights and freedoms is a stark reminder of the Chinese government's ongoing efforts to suppress Tibetan culture and identity," the statement mentioned.

TYC stated, "Recently, the Chinese government has shut down Tibetan schools, including the Ragya Sherig Nobu institutions. In response to these cultural genocidal campaigns, our cycle rally demands that the Chinese government cease its oppressive policies and urges the international community to support Tibetans in preserving their unique culture."

"We call on the international community to pressure China to end its genocidal policies in Tibet. Since its illegal occupation of Tibet, the Chinese communist government has exploited Tibet's rich mineral resources under the guise of developmental projects, endangering the survival of historically significant sites and monasteries. The damming projects on Drichu and other rivers in Tibet will have devastating effects on the livelihoods of Tibetans and downstream countries. The development in the border regions, driven by China's aggressive expansionist policies, will have direct consequences for neighboring countries," the activists of TYC declared.

"We also urge the Indian government to be vigilant and cautious in the face of China's strategic developmental campaigns, which may have far-reaching implications for regional security and stability. Following the rally, we will submit a petition to the United Nations office and other relevant bodies in Delhi, seeking their support and intervention in addressing the critical situation in Tibet," the Tibetan activists said.

Tibetan Youth Congress's cycle rally aims: 'demand that the Chinese Communist Regime immediately stop its cultural genocide in Tibet and urge the international community to take immediate action to hold China accountable for its inhumane atrocities in Tibet. We call upon the Indian government and people to support Tibet's independence, recognising that a free Tibet is essential for regional security, stability, and peace.'
