Dharamshala — “Especially in this time of human crisis, the media channels have real responsibility to promote human values and religious harmony. In a democratic society people have the right to know the truth and journalists should inform the public of the reality. However, you must report truthfully, objectively and in an unbiased manner,” His Holiness said in a meeting with Indian media on Wednesday, March 29th.
Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama granted a special audience to members of Indian media in Dharamshala, at his residence.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama spoke to the members of local media on being objective and truthful in their professions as journalists.
“Especially in this time of human crisis, the media channels have real responsibility to promote human values and religious harmony. In a democratic society people have the right to know the truth and journalists should inform the public of the reality. However, you must report truthfully, objectively and in an unbiased manner.”
He called on the Indian members to take a more active role internationally to promote the unique message of human values, secularism and religious harmony contained in the ancient Indian wisdom.
His Holiness said, “India has a great opportunity to combine modern scientific understanding, technological development and ancient Indian wisdom to create a more peaceful, honest and truthful society.”
A total of 37 Indian media persons from Dharamshala received the audience this morning.
Mr Akhilesh Bharati, ANI correspondent said, “It is always a blessing and a proud moment for me to see His Holiness. He gave a message to all of us, journalists that we should focus more on our study to lead a meaningful life. He told us that we have a big responsibility towards the society and I am very happy to see him this morning.”
The audience was requested by the members of a press, in a special appeal to Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay during an annual dinner reception hosted by the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) in February.
