Doctor freed after beatings, torture over a self-immolation in Tibet

Dharamshala — A Tibetan doctor, allegedly held by police for over a month in Machu County of north-eastern Tibet over suspected links to a self-immolation protest, was released last week after suffering beatings and torture in detention, a source from Tibet says.

Tibetans ordered home by Chinese questioned by police, stripped of passports

Dharamshala — Tibetans who were ordered to return home by Chinese authorities prior to the Buddhist gathering led by His Holiness the Dalai Lama this month have allegedly been stripped of their passports and questioned by police, who are especially interested in what pilgrims discussed with others following their return, sources from Tibet say.

Monk calls for less pre-condition for "Dalai Lama's return to Tibet"

Dharamshala — In a provincial meeting of leaders in Qinghai province, a monk from Rebkong Rongpo monastery in the Northeast region of Tibet, spoke out to Chinese officials, calling for the condition-less return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and reportedly said that government training and distribution of religious materials was not suitable for local Tibetans.
