23june200946Dharamshala: Chinese famous writer Mr. Wang Li Xiong is on his 2 months trip in Dharamshala, where the Tibetan Government  in exile based for last 50 years, he spoke about Tibet issues at a panel discussion which organized by Tibetan writers "Tibetan Pen". Titles such as Reflections on Tibet,  Discussion with the Dalai Lama,  and The Fate of Tibet are attributed to a widely know Chinese intellectual, Wang Li Xiong. Around 70 Tibetans including writers and journalists gathered at the discussion forum yesterday, he said “I used to write about the landscape, culture , and people, but since I meet my wife Woser I began to write passionately about the Tibet Issues.  She is like my window to the real suffering and real life of Tibetan people.”

He believes that meeting with his wife was an act of fate because it led him to his life’s work.  He said “when her father passed away Woser discovered he had a collection of undeveloped film her father shot related to the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Luckily she trusted me enough to send the films to me. I developed the film and I realized that they were important to Tibetan history, I told her that as a Tibetan it was her responsibility to safe guard the films.  Using the photos I sent her she contacted individuals. She wrote a book called Revolution. The Cultural revolution, is a disastrous time in Tibetan history that is often not spoken about, there is a gap, she filled a gap in history.”

Wang Li Xiong’s idea of  “progressive democracy” is unlike western democracy because it is not built on competition and opposition parties. He said “different societies need different democracies.”

Wang said, "Tibetan leader should work towards development of modern Tibetan democratic system and  encouraged further democrat developments in the exile Tibetan society.  he also urged exile Tibetan people to support the middle-way peace process that approached by the Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he said "It is important to understand why His Holiness the Dalai Lama is approaching the middle-way policy. During his meeting with the Tibetan spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama told the Chinese writer that his main goals are to create mutual respects between different religious and promote harmony and world peace.

He said “Tibetan democracy plays a significant role in the Tibetan issue right now, I can see much more developments here. His Holiness has the capability to unite Tibetan people; democracy should replace His Holiness the Dalai Lamas institution when the current Dalai Lama passes.  Although China is developed economically, socially and militarily, but what they lack is democracy and the Tibetan exile government has that. For those who live inside Tibet democracy in Tibet is attractive like a like in darkness.”
