Dharamshala: 50 Tibetan college students from across India attended Annual Youth Leadership Workshop in Dharamshala. The Tibetan parliamentary and the policy research center organized a 9 day workshop on leadership, “today’s youth, tomorrow’s leader” from 9 till 18 June.


17june20091Dharamshala: 50 Tibetan college students from across India attended Annual Youth Leadership Workshop in Dharamshala. The Tibetan parliamentary and the policy research center organized a 9 day workshop on leadership, “today’s youth, tomorrow’s leader” from 9 till 18 June.

Workshop organizer, MP Yeshe Phuntsok  explained the main purpose of the workshop to Tibet post reporter  “ In the past 8 years we have been giving workshops to students who are about to graduate from various colleges and high schools across India, we want to nurture future leaders for the Tibetan community.  We want these students to build their individuality and their confidence.”

“this year the workshop program includes an introduction to Tibet parliament in exile and it’s policy, the situation inside Tibet, Chinese policy and views towards Tibetan issue, Tibet situation on international stage, and his holiness’s achievements. One addition to this year’s program is a workshop that educates the students about how to protect themselves and there communities from the growing threat of contagious diseases.” He continued

Organizers of the workshop decide Dharamshala was the best place to host the event because here the students could have unlimited access to Tibetan exile government offices, NGOs and other institutions based in Dharamshala. Besides the lectures and panel discussions given by 30 Tibetan intellectuals the students were taken on tours of NGO offices, cultural institutions, and government offices in and around Dharamshala.

Most of students who attended this workshop were from regional college in Delhi, Chandigarh, Madras, Bangalore, Mangalore, Hyderabad, Baroda, Varanasi, Dava, Depoji .  Because of the Indian election exams were postponed. Students who had to reschedule their final exams were not able to attend the workshop.
